Segregation played a significant role before the Civil Rights Act and certainly there was deliberate and planned segregation that needed to be reversed, abolished and abandoned in this country–and we did so. During the accountability era of No Child Left Behind, the stakes got higher. Parents wanted their kid to be a success story in education, and at the local level, schools systems started to receive a lot of pressure from parents. “I want to be in that school, with that principal, and that teacher.” Parents began to feel that the school that their child attended was their only hope.
